What happens when you mix 8 teenaged girls, four adults, cookie dough, Sleepless in Seattle, and Donner Kebabs? The photos tell most of the story.
We invited two small group leaders to bring their girls over for Christmas cookie decorating. Laughter, silliness, and lots of cookies filled the evening. One girl quoted dialogue from the movie. Another meticulously decorated cookies before leaving to complete a school project.
I sobered as each girl shared where she would be for Christmas: Thailand, China, Japan, Switzerland, South Carolina, Turkey, Jordan, France. These girls, though looking like North Americans, have international identities and roots. Some have traveled more in sixteen years than I will travel in my entire lifetime. They speak at least two languages apiece. They love life, they hurt, they laugh, they cry, and they dream. These girls are very different and very much like the high schoolers we took to Guatemala 18 months ago.
I was blessed to bless!
I love this post. Who else would be crazy enough to invite such chaos into their home? I'm so glad the two of you are here. Moments like this are why God brought you to BFA at this exact time. I know my stay here would be much harder without you two. Thank you so much for inviting my small group into your home. The evening was exactly what I hoped it would be!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE donner kebabs! I want some when we come to visit someday!
