Our entry decorations with local pumpkins |
The hills changing color |
The slow crawl of orange, yellow, brown, and red through the
hillsides brings a sparkle to each day.
The rain clouds roll through the valley resulting in Irish-green grass. Then, as the puffy clouds part, sun
streams through, providing a glimpse of bright blue sky.
The view outside as I sit and type is both breathtaking and relaxing.

Fresh apple cake |
The fragrances of fresh mown hay, wood-burning fires, and
apples fill the air. Of course, I am baking apple bread and pumpkin soup which both fill the house with lovely smells.
Grapes begging to be eaten |
Fests occur in every town. Recently we wandered six kilometers through vineyards, corn
fields, and farms, tasting German fall foods, enjoying spectacular views of the
Rhine Valley, rubbing shoulders with folks who don't speak English, and sampling grapes hanging from the vines begging to be
picked.

20 foot fire display |
Friday night we visited a small shopping mall and watched as
young and old played in different fire pots. Musicians seranaded while several dancers twirled
fire batons. Enthralled, we watched as a twenty-foot high pyre stuffed with logs was set ablaze and then sprayed with
some flammable liquid that made the fire roar. Of course, food and drinks were sold at a number of ‘Imbiss’
(German for snack stand).
Today we will venture around the block after church to see
what is happening at the ‘Hoffest’ in the bio farm.
Tuesday evening I plan to cook German foods in the adult
school class for English speakers.
The last class provided recipes for potato salad, German meatballs, and
an apple fritter, German style.
Taking time to slow down and enjoy the season has been more difficult
this year, yet, having experienced this season here once already, I am prepared
to watch, to smell, to taste, and to touch Autumn's delights.
