Dermatology

I had an early morning appointment with the dermatologist today.  I was scheduled to have two questionable spots removed.  When I arrived I was greeted with  "Guten Tag".  Soon after my arrival I was ushered into the room for the "surgery".  After a few questions the doctor asked me to lie on the table so she could administer the local anesthetic to my nose.  Then she had me roll over so she could numb and surgically remove the place on my back, all the while talking with me in lovely English.  (She had lived with a family in Seattle while a teen.)

Finished with my back,  she asked me to roll over again.  She worked quickly on my nose as I kept my eyes closed!  Her assistant, when not gathering necessary equipment or bandages, stood at my side with her hand on my shoulder.  Very comforting!

When both spots had been removed, the doctor asked me to sit up slowly, but warned me against getting down from the table.  I am a wuss when it comes to blood and needles, so I was feeling a bit woozy.  She could tell.  She kept watching me as she typed her procedure into the computer .  Shortly she asked if I wanted a glass of water which was brought to me immediately.  We talked about another spot which had been the original reason I had made an appointment and asked if I would like a cup of coffee.  She explained that she would take a photo of that spot if I would sit in the waiting room for a few minutes.  Once seated, I was given the coffee.
One very sore, very lopsided nose!

Momentarily, several photos were taken of my forehead,  and I finished my coffee.  Fortunately for me, all of my conversations up to this point were with the English-speaking doctor.  My final activity before leaving was to schedule two more appointments.  Speaking only in German, the receptionist and I managed to understand each other well enough to work around my calendar and make the followup visits.

The entire time I was in the office it was quiet and relaxed.  I look forward to my next soothing consultation with the dermatologist.
