Magician!

As I thought about Smitty's opportunity to herd calves yesterday, I realized that as recently as last week he has tried another occupation.  Here is the story:

Due to malfunctioning door slides, Smitty had been asked to replace a shower surround in one dorm parent apartment.  He spent the morning doing demo and setting the surround in place.  Installation of the two glass doors would be the last step.

He carefully took the first door out of the box, and, with glass door in one hand and metal frame in the other, he took two steps toward the bathroom.  Without it touching a thing the entire door  exploded, sending pellets of glass ten feet in several directions.  He was left with only the frame in one hand and no glass at all, and only one small cut on his hand.

After cleaning up the glass, he drove to Bauhouse where he had purchased the shower.  He walked into the shower department and found an employee who spoke perfect English.  When the employee heard the story he obtained clearance for Smitty to have a new door, because the now shattered one (which he had not brought with him) would have been on warranty.

Smitty did have to take the remaining frame back to the store, but he was able to complete the shower project without any more surprises.

I have not decided which part of this project was more demonstrative of prestidigitation, but both the magically exploding glass and the amazing way he got the store to replaced the door were magic to me.

This week Smitty has decided to go back to straight maintenance.  I am ready for that, too!
