PreField Orientation, Week One

The end of the first week of PFO finds us physically weary, emotionally drained, and mentally taxed.  Interestingly, our commitment to going to Black Forest Academy is stronger than ever.

We have learned this week in a community of about 150 PFO staff, teachers, administrators, counselors, dorm staff, accompanying spouses, and children.  They come from all corners of the USA, are headed all over the world, and all with one purpose:  to glorify God in international Christian schools.  Some are quiet, others outspoken, but everyone is moving in the direction the Lord has ordained.

To prepare each attender for overseas, the staff has answered questions like "What is culture and what defines American culture?"  "How are Third Culture Kids different than those raised in one culture?"  "What can I expect as I transition into a new culture?"    Yesterday afternoon the teachers and administrators watched Dead Poet's Society, later discussing the ramifications of the colliding educational philosophies therein.  Clarification and understanding resulted.

Smitty at rest on campus
I have been encouraged that often more people groups are represented within an international Christian school than the students' parents interface with in their church planting ministries.  We are learning how creatively God woos those whom He has called.

Week one is ending; week two starts July 3rd with a field trip to Niagara Falls.  Weary or not, we press on.

  1. Loving the white socks with black shoes, Smitty! :)

Praying for good rest for you during this training, to strengthen you for each day's learning. Miss you both; your encouragement, hugs, kind words and smiles. Those you are working with now, and those who you will minister to at BFA, will certainly be uplifted by you (and you by them).

    Love,
    Amie
