A Special Dinner

Friday night we were treated to a lovely dinner by two students from BFA.  As members of the Independent Living class, they had learned to plan, prepare, serve, and clean up a dinner.  The practical application of doing the same for others demonstrated their competence.

Grace and Kyle went right to work when they arrived, so the three "older" folks sat and chatted while waiting for dinner.  I could tell that they were concentrating, but every so often we heard loud laughter.  Two teenagers in a kitchen...of course they got silly.  The fragrances of bacon, garlic, and chocolate cake filled the air.

We all sat down to enjoy the fruits of Grace and Kyle's time in the kitchen.  We invited Lexi, the yearbook teacher, so five of us enjoyed linguine with carbonara sauce, salad, garlic bread, and chocolate cake.  Dinner was delicious.  Afterward we adults chatted some more as we listened to the riotous laughter of two teenagers cleaning up the evening's work.

We ended the evening by driving both of the students back to their respective dorms.  What a beautiful star-lit night to be out, and what a fun way to get to know two kids whose parents are far away.
